Vintage Spotlight: 1981 Tomy Tron Figures

From , former About.com Guide

In 1981 Disney made a huge splash with their big screen release of Tron, an epic adventure designed to spark the imaginations of a new video-game-fed technological youth, with it's computer generated graphics (rare for that time) and digitally glowing imagery.

If the movie, tied in with a massively popular arcade game, made a big impact, its subsequent action figure line made a far smaller, however long-lasting, one. Few kids in the '80s were able to get their hands on the figures, but for those who did, the toys would forever be remembered as astoundingly original, and immensely fun, with their translucent bodies and futuristic vehicles.

Re-released by NECA in 2002, the classic Tron figures from TOMY have earned a small, but powerful, place of honor among some of the greatest action figures of all time.
