Action figure collecting has become extremely popular and profitable over the last several decades. No longer designed as just toys for kids, many action figures, even those found in toy stores, are designed with collectors in mind. In a field of collecting that shows no signs of slowing down, it is important to know what you are getting into when you decide to collect action figures. Here is a list of the top five reasons to invest in action figures.

5. The Market for Action Figures

Because of the large number of action figure collectors worldwide spanning generations, the demand for action figures never ceases. With online auctions, people are rediscovering their childhood like never before. Certain action figures have been setting record prices if found in perfect condition, since most collectors want to display their toys looking as though they came directly from the factory. And while the profit margin on current action figure collectibles is often small, it is usually an easy turnaround for your money.

4. Community

Collecting action figures can be a daunting task, especially if you are interested in a particularly large toy line like Star Wars or a large field of collecting like military action figures. Thankfully, there are several people looking for the same thing as you, and often times, they are more than willing to help others out. People from all corners of the earth have been brought together through collecting action figures. It is a great way to meet people who are very passionate about the same things as you!

3. Generations of Collectors

Action figures have been around since the early 1960s, beginning with G.I. Joe. There have now been multiple generations of children who have grown up with action figures. They reflect many different interests, ranging from wildly popular movies like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings to athletes to comic books and beyond. Because action figures are still being made and still very popular with kids, there will only continue to be more generations of action figure collectors, since the kids of today are the collectors of tomorrow.

2. Price

Action figures are toys and therefore meant to be played with, and many are priced by toy companies so that kids can buy them with allowance money. When compared to investing in stocks, art, or antiques, action figures are a relatively inexpensive way to invest in something. However, while price may be low, quantity is often high, and toy companies will keep you busy throughout the year if you intend to collect everything in a particular line. And while action figures start at very low prices, certain figures will command prices reaching four and even five figures!

1. It's Fun!

There is no better way to preserve your inner child than by doing something you did as a kid and taking it to the next level. Collectors gain a huge sense of gratification from filling in holes in their collection. With the money and resources that adults have, the phrase collect them all has a new meaning and seems like an attainable goal. The great thing is that new action figures are being produced all the time, so your work as a collector is never done.
