As for the figure examined in this article, it is indeed one of the somewhat rarer "Small Head Han" figures originally released in 1978 (with a copyright date of 1977 on the back). All in all, this figure is in very good shape, although there seems to be either a little damage to the right side of his neck or else some sort of manufacturing flaw that took place during the molding process. Or perhaps a Wampa bit him.
Included with the figure was Han Solo's trusty blaster pistol, which would eventually be released with several other figures as Kenner, like any other toy company, would try to save a little money by reusing existing molds for accessories instead of paying high prices to have a new mold made. The gun in this case appears to not be the original, as the figure was released with a black gun, and this one happens to be a dark blue, which was common for this accessory when included with other action figures. The other possibility is that this is a reproduction weapon, but it doesn't seem likely.
All things considered, this is an excellent example of a classic Han Solo figure.
