Shockwave "Busts" into Transformers High-End Collectibles

Tuesday November 6, 2007
Diamond Select Toys have revealed information on the upcoming Shockwave bust for their Transformers line of statues and busts. It's sculpted by Art Asylum, stands six inches tall, and is limited to a mere 1,000 pieces worldwide. Though it's expected to ship in March of next year, pre-orders for the bust are available now.

This is not the first time a company has attempted making busts and statues for Transformers. Both Hard Hero Enterprises and the now defunct Palisades Toys offered limited edition high-end collectibles based on the classic 1980's toy line. However, with small edition sizes, dynamic poses and sculpting, and the fact that the Transformers movie was a huge hit and spawned a new generation of fans, these new busts are coming at a great time.

Of course, the irony is that the whole concept of transforming toys has been abandoned with stationary collectibles like this! It's pretty amazing that non-posable sculptures have infiltrated the market to the point that Transformers that don't even transform can sell so briskly!
