Sideshows Collectibles Exclusives: Dueling for your Shelf Space

Saturday October 20, 2007
Sideshow Collectibles opened pre-orders for their Star Wars Yoda versus Count Dooku duel diorama. This polystone statue carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price (or MSRP) of $199.99. This is about what high-end statues run, and though they aren't poseable action figures per se, there's certainly a lot of action going on in this diorama!

But wait, there's more! In fact, with just about every product that Sideshow Collectibles releases, there is a corresponding Exclusive Edition. For this diorama, Sideshow made an exclusive "faux bronze" edition, if perhaps you wanted a more museum-like appearance. Take a look to see the difference.

So which one should you invest in? You should always buy whichever one you like best. However, when it comes to Sideshow exclusives, you don't have a lot of time to decide. When you sign up for Sideshow Collectibles e-mail list and for their collector's club, you'll have access to ordering these exclusives. However, when an exclusive goes up for pre-order, the site usually gets hits from all over the world, and exclusive editions are sold-out almost momentarily. The current record for a Sideshow exclusive selling out is the Stealth Iron Man Comiquette, which sold out in a mind-blowing eight minutes!

The good thing about these exclusives is that they usually get directly into the hands of collectors, since you can only order under your account (most collectible dealers like to get a hold of as many of an item as possible as to maintain a stock). Edition sizes are also set that most of the people who want a particular item can get it. The quality of Sideshow's products is such that a regular edition is hardly a cop-out, and usually, it's just as good of an investment as the exclusive.
