In the action figure community we collectors have very little to consume for entertainment. There are definitely great websites to keep us informed and entertained, but there isn't much to speak of in the way of magazines or books. And there certainly haven't been any television shows based around our hobby. That changes tonight.
A new show called Toy Hunters, first airing tonight on the Travel Channel, follows the exploits of collector and retailer Jordan Hembrough. In this pilot episode, he visits the area surrounding the old Kenner headquarters to talk to past employees and buy rare vintage figures including a particularly handsome Boba Fett prototype. There's apparently an interaction with a past LJN employee too, regarding some classic ThunderCats figures and their history.
This show has a lot of promise for action figure collectors, as it gives us a chance to see figures we might not otherwise get to, and brings action figure collecting to a new audience. It's important that the show is watched and supported by collectors, so that it might get picked up as a regular series.
I, for one, would love to see more action figures on TV.
