Come Together, Right Now, Over Action Figures!

From Reis O'Brien, About.com GuideSeptember 4, 2009

Hello fellow action figure aficionados! I'm blogging to you all today in an appeal to help me better serve you in my duties as the official action figure guide for About.com. I'm that kind of guy, always thinking of others.

Some of you may know that I have relatively recently taken over the action figure site after a long stint of dormancy (the site, not me) and you may have noticed that I've been doing my best to bring you helpful articles, informative reviews, nostalgic strolls down memory lane and fun blog posts. You have, haven't you? Please say yes!

However, one of the areas that has yet to truly get some life breathed back into it is our Action Figure Forums. Looking at past postings, the forum seems to have been quite lively back in the day and I'd like to get it back to that. I imagine a forum of people discussing, joking, debating and trading everything and anything about action figures. But I can't just wish for that to happen and then it comes true.

So I'm asking you all for advice. Take a moment to think about the following question and then give your answer in the comments. What would you like to see that would make the forum a fun place to be? Hey! That kind of rhymed!

I thank you all in advance for your answers, and look forward to seeing where my people stand, or if I even have people for that matter. By giving your point of view, you'll be helping to rebuild an online community that is meant for everyone who loves action figures, so make yourself heard!

I'd also like to take this chance to invite you to just jump in on the forums. Add some comments to get old posts rolling again, or start a new discussion! Ask questions! Start a debate! And most importantly, have fun.

I think the forums are more like Fail-ums right now because of the poor usability of About’s forum system. they’re hard to find from your main page (you need a big ‘ol FORUMS banner) and the layout isn’t quite what people have come to expect from a forum system.

Better layout and usability, and maybe sub categories (GI Joe, MOTU, Vintage etc etc) would help immensely.
