The Return of an Masters of the Universe Legend.

Thursday August 6, 2009

I swear that the folks at Mattycollector are trying to kill me. It's bad enough that they came out with an incredible line of figures in their Masters of the Universe Classics line that I can never get my hands on because they sell out faster than you can say "I Have the Power!" only to show up on eBay at absurdly inflated prices. Then they twisted the knife when they announced the MOTU Classics subscription service which guarantees you every figure for the next coming year, yet at a price some of us just can't swing, despite what you may think about me being a wealthy action figure blogger.

Well, they then delivered the death blow when word got out during this year's San Diego Comic Con that with every subscription bought, they will include the limited edition Wun-Dar figure, based on the legendary "Wonder Bread He-man" figure from 1981, that many collectors have claimed never existed despite several examples being found. How can they do this to me? I may never sleep soundly again.

In honor of the elusive Wonder Bread He-man figure (so named as he was a mail-away offer from Wonder Bread), the geniuses at Mattycollector developed Wun-Dar (Get it? Wun-Dar? Wonder?) as a tip of the hat to the true believers, even nodding to the legend by including with the figure a tiny, plastic loaf of bread. Brilliant!

Well, I might as well, go cry myself to sleep now. No, no... I'll be fine.

To learn more about Wonder Bread He-man, and to see absolute proof that he did indeed exist, check out Bubbashelby's blog article on the subject, detailing how he found one in a box at a flea market (action figure collectors dream of this sort of thing.) To sign up for the MOTU Classics subscription service and then cruelly taunt me with your very own Wun-Dar figure by dangling it in my face and making me cry, visit MattyCollector.com.
