San Diego Comic Con Takes Over This Weekend!

Friday July 24, 2009

Excuse me for a moment while I cry my eyes out in front of everyone I cross paths with, blow my nose loud enough to scare children and then sit quietly in a corner and sniffle. Why am I so sad, you ask? Because I'm not at the San Diego Comic Con scoring awesome exclusive action figures! Waaahhhh!

Okay, I'll try to contain myself.

As many of you may or may not know, Comic Con 2009 is taking over the city of San Diego this weekend, swamping the city with nerdy guys in Spider-Man t-shirts, goth kids hoping to meet Neil Gaiman, hot girls dressed as Wonder Woman and/or Princess Leia in her slave outfit or a combination of the two, mopey tween girls with black fingernails and Twilight fever, more nerdy guys in Spider-Man t-shirts and a horde of lucky action figure collectors scoring tons of SDCC exclusives that are simply turning me Incredible-Hulk-green with envy!

I've devoted a lot of blog space in the last few weeks reporting on all of the exclusive action figures being offered this year by such notable toy-makers as Hasbro, Mezco, Hot Toyz, Mattel and many others. In fact, it seems to me that considering the sheer volume of exclusive figures and other toys being given away this year at the Con that it just may be possible the action figure collectibles market is the one and only market not being decimated by our crumbling economy. Perhaps collectors are hoping that these toys will one day be their ticket out of this economic depression, or perhaps this is a sign that times are so hard on your average Joe collector, that the toy companies are doing what they can to keep us smiling, and therefore buying.

Either way, it all points to the action figure business becoming an absolute behemoth in the collectibles world, and I'm proud to be a part of it! So, happy San Diego Comic Con all you lucky dogs!

Although it's way too late to get in, if you want more information about the glorious geek fest, visit the SDCC 2009 website.
