Toy Fair 2008: Gentle Giant: Yet another busy convention season!

Saturday February 16, 2008
Gentle Giant is known for really rewarding the fans who follow them to major collectible conventions, and 2008 is no different. They're producing a number of different exclusives from nearly all of their major properties.

For Lord of the Rings collectors, you can look forward to an exclusive version of Sauron with fingers that are chopped off with an additional lighting effect not included in the standard version. You can also look forward to a fan favorite from the Tolkien classic with the addition of Tom Bombadil, a character that was sadly not featured in the films.

For Harry Potter, the ever popular Weasley twins, Fred and George, will each get their own uniquely sculpted mini-busts (of course, they're dressed the same, so they're still a little hard to tell apart). You'll also be getting a version of Professor Lupin transforming into a werewolf, a great companion piece for the standard release version of regular Professor Lupin.

Star Wars has a few interesting interesting pieces. Fan site rebelscum.com will have their own exclusive of Lieutenant Renz, the Imperial Officer who utters the phrase, "You rebel scum!" that is the basis for the website's domain name. It even features a sound chip of actor Barrie Holland's voice saying the famous line. This will be available for purchase on rebelscum.com. Collectors will also be treated to the first mini-bust version of Anakin Skywalker from Episode III (prior to becoming Darth Vader, of course). It features a great Hayden Christiansen likeness, and it features him holding his lightsaber along with Count Dooku's lightsaber, capturing the pivotal scene in Revenge of the Sith where he's about to teach Dooku a lesson once and for all. There is also a Clone Lieutentant bust for the Classics line that is a gift for members who sign up for the Premiere Guild this year.

Indiana Jones has a very unique exclusive. At New York Comic Con and San Diego Comic Con, collectors can purchase a crate, resembling the one from the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Inside are a number of relics from the Indiana Jones series. Which relics? You won't know until you buy it! The sets include a tablet and the fertility idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark in one set, the Sankara stones from Temple of Doom and the Holy Grail from The Last Crusade in another set, and the final set includes a crystal skull from the latest movie (not to be photographed).

These exclusives will be divided between Premiere Guild exclusives and convention exclusives, with many of the convention exclusives being shared at New York Comic Con in April and San Diego Comic Con in July. Some will remain exclusive to each show. For example, Anakin will only be available at San Diego and not in New York. Stay tuned for all the latest news on these exclusives throughout the year!
