Action Figures BlogKhan joins Mego Star Trek Collection thanks to Diamond Select ToysI've written previously about Diamond Select Toys and their license to produce replicas of the original Mego Star Trek action figures from the 1970's. Critics who were worried about how the original line could be devalued completely are in for a treat with the announcement that Khan Noonien Singh, portrayed by Ricardo Montalban in both the television series and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, will be offered as part of the new line. Long story short: Diamond Select Toys is making a Mego-style figure of a character never made by Mego.
What's more, they're even designing the figure to look exactly like it would have been a part of the Mego line. It's obviously meant to do the character justice, but it also looks like something that Mego would have been able to produce in the 1970's. Many Star Trek Aliens got the short end of the stick with a smaller budget and re-used parts (like the Gorn figure, which was made from a World's Greatest Superheroes Lizard figure). Khan is an iconic Trek villain and his addition to the line is surely welcome. Could this mean that Mego-style figures of characters like Pavel Chekov or Janice Rand aren't far behind? Let's hope that Diamond Select Toys continues the trend that should be happening with this line. ***Guide's Note: Khan was actually developed by a company called EMCE Toys and sculpted by cult favorite Mego customizer James Brady. Diamond is only distributing the toy. EMCE has done a fantastic job. Be sure to check their website for more info. Thanks to Joe Sena for the update!*** Thursday February 7, 2008 | comments (2) Display Latest Headlines | powered by WordPress |
