Mattel Retro-Action DC Superheroes Wave 1

They're not exactly Mego, but they're pretty darn close, and that's good enough for many classic action figure fans. We spotted Wave 1 in the wild and give you a quick peek.

Sneak Peek of Kick Ass Movie Figures at Entertainment Earth!

Friday March 19, 2010

Kick Ass Hit Girl FigureIf you're like me, and you're also a comic book fan, then you probably know that the uber-popular comic Kick Ass is about to hit theaters as a  full-length feature film. If you didn't know this, then you do now and you're welcome.

And what major comic book adaptation movie would be complete without some seriously awesome action figures to accompany them? Well, you can get a sneak peek of the upcoming figures over at Entertainment Earth right now, which are set for a September release (but may be sooner).

The first thing you'll notice is that the figure are a whopping 12" tall, cost a whopping $34 and appear to have a whopping zero points of articulation! (Okay, to be fair, they have listed "multiple points of articulation", but I just don't see many from the limited picture provided.) Well, that all adds up to one thing: adult movie collectible. This is a clear indicator to parents that these are not for the young ones, which from what I've seen of the previews and gathered from reading the comic, neither is the movie.

Anyway, catch a case of Kick Ass fever now! Or simply quietly rejoice in the fact that we live in an age where major motion pictures can have "Ass" in the title. The future is here, folks.

Iron Man 2 6" Figures Exclusive to Walmart

Thursday March 18, 2010

Iron Man 2 6"The good folks over at Marvelous News released a bunch of pics of the upcoming Iron Man 2 6" line of figures that will be released as exclusive figures to Walmart.

On one hand, this is great news to the people out there who were less than pleased to heart about the Iron Man 2 figures making the switch to 1:18 scale (not me, I love them!), and now all of your 6" figure lovers can have new Iron Man figures to match your figures from the first movie. Yay!

The one downer to all of this is that they are Walmart exclusives, because, quite frankly, I'm getting sick of all of these exclusive toylines. It's bad enough that Walmart snagged the exclusive rights to the entire How to Train Your Dragon toy-line, but now they have to have all of the 6" Iron Man 2 figures too?

Don't get me wrong, having an exclusive vehicle or a special collectors pack in a toyline is one thing, but to completely monopolize an entire line is not cool. Especially for people like me, who doesn't have a Walmart that close by (Yes folks, there are still some places on this Earth where Walmart has not encroached.)

Still, I may just end up out that way one day and have to stock up in one go. In the meantime, I'll just have to content myself with the brilliant 1:18 scale figures. Did I mention that they are awesome? Well, they are. Reviews to come.

Dear Mattel, I Quit.

Wednesday March 17, 2010

MOTU MossmanWell, once again, Mattel serves up a heaping amount of misery for it's fans as another stellar example of poor customer traffic management and inadequate stock production this past Monday when their much anticipated, and equally debated (flocked ears or no flocked ears?), MOTUC Mossman figure went on sale.

I have made no secret about my love/hate relationship with Mattycollector, and have occasionally had to make the decision either to skip a figure out of lack of interest (Trap Jaw) or lack of funds (Skeletor reissue), but I was there with bells on at 9 AM Pacific time when the Mossman figure went on sale. To make a long story short, 9 minutes of white screen later and the figures were completely sold out. I never even got a chance. I later heard that one version of Mossman sold out in 4 minutes.

Couple this with the fact that I spent several hours at a comic convention this past weekend looking at piles and piles of over-priced MOTUC figures being hawked by low-life scalpers (none of which were being bought by anyone, so how exactly does this work?), and I have decided that I have to take drastic measures.

I hereby declare that I am washing my hands of this whole MOTUC thing. Collecting action figures is supposed to be about having fun, not being routinely exasperated by toy-makers and gouged by scalper scumbags. I'm not having any fun whatsoever in my endeavor to find these figures. Sure, they're awesome figures, as you'll see in my upcoming Battlecat review, but they're just not worth the aggrivation to me.

So, I quit Mattel. I will no longer buy your MOTUC figures. Which is probably fine for other MOTUC collectors, because that's just more figures for them, or at least more figures for the scalpers to snap up and resell to you for over twice their original prices. You all have fun with that.

New DC Unlimited World of Warcraft Figures!

Friday March 12, 2010

Thanks to the good folks over at Toy News International, we're getting a sneak peek of DCU's latest World of Warcraft offerings.

I'll be the first to admit that these figures are stunningly sculpted, amazingly painted and brilliantly detailed, but for me, that just doesn't make up for the fact that these are essentially statues with a couple of points of articulation. The pose you get is the pose you get. So you better really like it.

I don't play WoW, so maybe I'm missing something here. I imagine to WoW fans, these statues figures are pretty epic.

In fact, being a Conan fan, I have been tempted to pick up the Lo'Gosh figure, because he looks an awful lot like the King of Aquilonia, but the lack of articulation has kept me from shelling out the cash.

Anyway, take a look at the TNI link above or visit DC Unlimited: World of Warcraft site for more pics of giant monsters holding swords.
